Client of the Month: Carla Lane

Carla Lane, owner of Lane Staffing, moved into her Pearland, TX home 10 years ago. Over the years, the house and its furnishings became somewhat outdated. All of the walls in the two-story home were painted beige, the fixtures were dated, and some of the furniture needed to be replaced. Already a client, Lane called The Gite Gallery design team for help.

The team started with a revamp of the the formal living room. The walls were painted a soft gray, a new chandelier was installed, and an altar table and rug were added to anchor the room. The room was completed with a huge painting by African artist Kofi Agorsor.

Next, the team tackled Lane’s home office. The room was painted a sunny yellow. A giant armoire was replaced by a sleek side table, and new office furniture was brought in. To bring more color into the space, the design team selected an abstract painting by artist Kwame Osa.

The formal dining room was painted a darker gray and the ceiling was painted a buttery yellow. A new buffet replaced a huge china cabinet and the dining chairs were reupholstered. A vibrant painting by Kwame Osa was placed above the buffet.

To honor Lane’s love of her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, the kitchen was painted red and white. The cabinets were painted in a high-gloss silver and the wooden shutters went from brown to white, bringing lots of light into a once dark room. A new chandelier, breakfast table, and chairs were also selected to update the kitchen.

Lane’s foyer was transformed by adding two of her existing chairs that were reupholstered in gray and coral fabric. A new sculpture by Afro-Cuban artist Choco is flanked by the chairs and a smaller table. Finally, the team installed new paintings on the wall.

The Master Bedroom was painted gray and white. New furnishings include: a chaise, two Marge Carson chairs, and a console. Custom draperies and a shag rug complete the space.

The upstairs family room, which has a large pool table, was also painted in gray and white. A new leather sofa and an updated ceiling fan were added to the room. The design team completed the space with new art by Larry Otoo and several African masks.

Lane’s media room also got a major facelift. Carpet was replaced by new wooden flooring. In the place of the old leather media chairs, the design team selected a new sectional leather couch and two Marge Carson chairs. A bar was built in the back of the room and three acrylic chairs were placed behind it. Custom-made theatre draperies were added to this room which also houses Lane’s husband’s beloved Dallas Cowboys memorabilia.

“I can’t believe the changes. It is more than I expected,” said Lane. “It feels like a new, more elegant home. When family and friends come over, they can’t seem to close their mouths. Around every corner, there is something brand new and more breathtaking.”
